Not Your Regular Superficial Stress Management Tips
Are you tired of trying to figure out how to de-stress your life because every choice you make simply stresses you out more? If so, then you have found the right place. When applying stress management tips to your life, they are supposed to help. If they do not help, what good are they? Instead of just trying the same old tips of the past, like meditation and breathing exercises (even though those skills can and do help), here are a few different tips to consider.
Managing Your Stress Starts with Defining Your Stress
To start, you need to realize that you have stress and narrow down its origin. This may involve looking at your life as an outsider, or having someone to talk to about what is going on in your life. In order to apply stress management tips, you need to figure out what is stressing you out. The more you can define what is going on in your life, the more control you gain. Then, you can go through and start chipping away at your stress, one tip at a time.
Unique Stress Management Tips You Don’t Hear of Everyday
The first thing you can do is figure out how to use your inner voice to speak up for yourself. This is called being assertive. You have an inner voice that you can use to tell people what you need or what is going on. However, you may not know how to find it or how to use it. Assertiveness training may help if that is the case. The more assertive you can be with others, the less their situations or demands can stress you out.
Another thing that you can do is to be mindful of what is going on right here, right now. You want to make sure you do everything in the present tense. Holding on to what happened in the past or worrying about what might happen tomorrow only removes your ability to be relaxed today. Don’t worry about the past or the future. Make a conscious effort to be here, right now, and make the most of that time. That is not to say you should not plan for the future, but it is to say you should not let it steal from your present.
Delegating is a great way to take some stress off of you. Trying to take on too much is stressful for anyone. It can make trying to figure out what to do difficult, which only adds to your stress. By delegating, you put others in charge of tasks they are capable of handling. This is the opposite of people-pleasing, which in itself can be a stressor. When we let go of full control, delegate to whom we can trust, a great deal of stress is gone. If you tend to be a people-pleaser, ( afraid to ask others for help), the aforementioned assertiveness training would be very helpful to you.
Personal Stress Management Tips to Also Consider
You need to remember when things get tough, to give yourself a break. Do not set your own personal expectations to an unrealistic level, as you could set yourself up for feeling like you have failed something. The same goes with what you expect out of others. Keep expectations realistic and plan for the differences. It helps keep your personal stress levels lower.
Setting small personal goals each day can also go a long way towards reducing your stress. If you set only big, long-term goals, you are much more likely to feel like everything is out of reach. By setting fewer, more manageable goals that you can accomplish daily, you feel good about what you are able to get done. You should have a mix of small and large goals so you are always striving for something more.
Being kind is a great way to keep your stress down. However, you must also make sure you are being kind to yourself. A lot of people talk negatively to themselves. They believe they are not good enough or pretty enough, or similar thoughts. These perceptions only add to your stress. Be nice in what you say and what you believe about yourself. It can go a long way towards relieving your stress.
